a history of politics

today journal

In 2007, 13 years ago this month, I was an MP candidate for the 2nd electoral district of Athens representing the Greek libertarian party “Libertarian Alliance” (Φιλελεύθερη Συμμαχία), of which I had been a founding member.

I received 155 votes. Needless to say, that was the beginning and the end of my political carriere. This was what everyone involved expected, and as it should be. I had no political ambitions then nor do I have any now.

I was asked to be a candidate merely because they needed a name on the ballot. I was asked to put my name on the founding petition merely because they needed the numbers. So limited was my agency and contribution.

I am recording this here because it is a weird thing that I did many years ago. I barely remember it. It feels very much like it happend to a different person. Someone I knew rather well. A stranger now.
